BELVEDERE SCHOOL.
Annual Picnic.
{Special to Daily Times.)
The annual picnic in connection with the Belvedere School was held in the schoolgrounds, Belvedere, on Friday afternoon, the weather being all that could be desired, which enabled the children along with their parents to enjoy a pleasant afternoon's outing.
Games of all descriptions were indulged in, and races were run for the juveniles, some of which were very amusing, among them "being obstacle, blindfold, and tug-of-war events.
After tea, those present assembled in the schoolhouse, and the Rev. J. J. Bates, of St. Andrew's Church, Carterton, on behalf of the School Committee, presented each child attending the school with a handsome book. The attendance prizes were very keenly contested, and were won by Miss Nellie Harvey, Master George Benge (each of them scoring a possible number of attendances—namely, 421), and Miss Kempton and Master Alex. George. Besides these four mentioned, there were- some half-a-dozen others who ran very close to the possible, and received special mention for their efforts.
At the conclusion of the prize distribution cheers were given for His Majesty King Edward, Mr McFarlano (headmaster), Miss P. Butler (mistress), Rev. Mr Bates, and the committee and ladies who attended to the wants of the children.
