{Special to Daily Times.)
The Chamber of Commerce have written to Department four times re a footpath leading to the station. The replies varied from "the matter was under consideration " to " there , are more urgent works required." The Chamber again, on Wednesday night, resolved to write to the Department on the question. I should say that there could be no " more urgent works " than those required to protect life. The piece of road in question is the one leading from the station gates to the station. For a distance of from 300 to 400 yards the road is narrow. On one side there is a drop to the railway line, and the other in some places a bank and in others a drop. There is no light along the road or at the gates. One can imagine how dangerous this piece of road is at night to pedestrians, when 'busses and other vehicles are passing back and forth. There have been several accidents, fortunately (or I should say miraculously) without very serious results. The Chamber are now taking a petition around for signature, and it is to be hoped that the Department will recognise that this is an " urgent work."
