Presentation to Mr E. McKenzie.
(Special to Daily Times.)
A pleasing little ceremony took place at the Marquis Hotel, Carterton, last night, when a large crowd of footballers were present to make a presentation to Mr E. McKenzie, who has been compelled, through a recent illness, to withdraw from the football arena. Mr G. \V. Deller occupied the chair, and referred in eulogistic terms to Mr McKenzie's past career, as a citizen as well as an exponent of Rugby. He had been a prominent member of the Carterton Football Club for some ten years, had captained them since 1898, and, during that time, his Club had won the Senior Championship four times with credit. Not only had Mr McKenzie represented the district on several occasions, but had gained distinction in the North Island team. Every footballer who knew him sympathised with him in his recent severe illness, but trusted he would yet be of service to them, and be in good health onc6 again. With a few more remarks, the speaker concluded a happy little speech, and asked Mr McKenzie to accept a presentation from his old friends and admirers, as a token of the esteem in which he was held. He then handed him a framed address and a purse of sovereigns, amidst cheers.
Mr McKenzie made a suitable reply. The recipient's health was then drank in bumpers, and the gathering dispersed.
