N.S.W. LANDS COMMISSION.
(Received Last Night, at 9.45 p.m.)
Sydney, Yesterday.
The hearing of the charges against W. P. Crick was continued to-day. Crick occupied the greater part of the day with an exhaustive cross-examination of Peter Close in reference to the land transactions over which the alleged division of commission took place, and Crick's borrowing transactions with Close's firm. Crick indicated that his object was to show that his treatment of land exchanges had been departmentally correct, and in the interests of the public. Close admitted that this was so.
Mr J. Pilcher, for the Crown, pointed out that the graveness of the charge was not whether Crick had administered his Department propeily or improperly, but that, as a Minister, he had received a gratuity.
