A meeting of the Committee of the Rongomai Rifle Club was held on Saturday evening. It was decided to invite the Tararua Rifle Club and the Mounted Rifles to fire a triangular match on the 9th of November on the club range. Arrangements were made for holding the annual social of the club at the hall on Thursday, November the 9th, at which the prizes won during the past season will be presented. Tho Vice-Captain, Mr John Thomasen, reported that trophies had been presented by the following : Messrs R. Suisted, 0. Edmonds, F. Dowsett, 0. Reeve, C. A. Aulin, W. M. Wilson, J. Thomasen, E. Sparksman, J. Thomson, Partridge, Dalgety & Co., and Dymock & Co. for the present season. It was decided to fire for trophies on Thursday next, the competition also counting for the Tumor and Jones Cups. A special meeting of the Club will be held on the Range during the afternoon.
A start was made yesterday by the contractor to erect a butcher's shop and dwelling combined in Main-street for Mr J. Harrison, next to Mr Hollings' new build ings. Mr Marenzi has decided to erect a tobacconist's shop, saloon, and dwelling combined in Main-street, between Mr R. Vile's shop and the Bank of New South Wales. The building will consist of two stories. The machinery for the Brick and Tile Company arrived on Monday.
