PERSONAL.

Presentation to Mr W. Lawson

Mr W. Lawson, who is about to leave Masterton for Dannevirke, was tendered a farewell social at the V.M.C.A. rooms last evening. There wei'e about forty members present, and the President of the Association (Mr P. L. Hollings) occupied the chair. A thoroughly enjoyable evening was spent, a number of songs being sung and a long list of toasts honoured. During the evening the chairman presented the guest with Chambers' Encyclopedia of English Literature, in three volumes. In doing so, he referred with pleasure to his acquaintance with Mr Lawson as a member of the V.M.C.A., and also to the excellent service he had rendered as assistant secretary. He said that Mr Lawson's departure they were losing an enthusiastic member and a true friend. On behalf of the Association he wished him God's speed and success.

Mr H. Inns, on behalf of the social branch of the Association, endorsed the eulogiums given expression to by the previous speaker.

Mr Lawson, in acknowledging the gift, thanked the members for their kindly wishes on his behalf. Cheers were given for Mr Lawson, after which a very pleasant function was concluded by the singing of " Auld Lang Syne." Mr H. Inns presided at the piano.
