Meeting of Directors
A meeting of Directors of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society was held in the.Club Hotel on Saturday afternoon. There were present: Messrs J. B. McKenzie (chairman), J. C. McKillop, G. Mcllattio, F. Hill, E. E. Chamberlain, T. P. Lett, A. McLeod, D. McLachlau, T. Wyeth, A. Mutrie, G. Stewart, J. McLean, J. Harvey, Jas. McKenzie, F. F. Day, and E. 11. Waddington.
Applications were received from the Secretary of the Masterton Brass Band and Mr Reihana Boyes to supply music for the sports gathering.
Some discussion ensued. Several of the members were in favour of the brass baud, owing to the string band not being loud enough, while others considered the former too loud, and stated that it drowned the pipes. Eventually, on the motion of Mr Hill, seconded by Mr McLeod, the Secretary was instructed to arrange with the Brass Band for their attendance. An amendment moved by Mr Mcllattie and seconded by MiMcLean, being lost by eight votes lo six.

The meeting resolved itself into a special committee to revise the sports programme. The various events were considered seriatum 4 and the prize-money increased by a total amount of over £50. A proposal was made that several of the events should be struck off, but motion to this effect was negatived. It was decided to add three amateur events to the programme, the distances being 100 yds, 220 yds, and -140 yds; prizes to be"£3 os and £1 Is, provided there be six starters. The nomination fee was fixed at 2s and the acceptance at 2s. Mr McLeod stated that he was prepared to present a gold medal for the winner of the quoits competition ; Mr McHattie stated that he would give a gold medal for the competitor making the fastest time in the tree-felling contest; Mr J. B. McKenzie stated that he would give a gold medal for most points in the dancing events ; and the Society decided to present a gold medal for fastest time in the hewing competition. Messrs J. B. McKenzie, J. H. Pauling, J. C. McKillop, E. E. Chamberlain, G. Mcllattie and the Secretary were appointed a committee to arrange for the reception of Miss J. Maclachlan on the occasion of her visit to Masterton.
