PARK COMMITTEE.

Fortnightly Meeting,

The fortnightly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council Park Committee was held last evening. There wore present: Councillors J. 0. Ewinaton (chairman), T. G. Hoar, F. W. Temple, J...E'lioit and W. Morris.

A letter was received from the Masterton Cricket Council, asking whether the Committee would allow the use of the Oval for cricket on the following terms :-(l; The Cricket Council to pay £25 for the season, £12 10s to be paid on December Ist, 1905, and £12 10s ou March Ist, 1906; (2) the Borough Council to keep the grass cut to the satisfaction of a ground committee, to ba appointed by the Park Committee and Cricket Council; (3) the cricketers to be allowed the use of the lawn mowers, roller, hose or any other necessary plant fo; keeping and maintaining their pitches ; (4) the cricketers to prepare their o'.vn pitches and maintain same; (5) the arrangement not to interfere with the usual fixtures of other sports, but the Borough Corncil to protect the pitches from injury, (6) the ground to be under tho control pi the custodian ; (?) the Borough Council to take steps to put tho Oval in order forthwith for cricket." The attention of the Park Committeo was drawn to the fact that the roller at present in the Park was too heavy for manual labour.

The following resolutions were p.isscd by the Committee, the clerk being instructed to sent a copy to the Cricket Council, for their approval or otherwise : —(I) That cricket be allowed to be played on the Oval, the Cricket Council to pay £25 for the season— £12 10s on December Ist, 1905, and £12 10s on March Ist, 19D6, tho season to cbse at the end of Apiil; (2) the cricketers to prepare and maintain their own pitches, and to have tho use.of mowers, roiler, horse or any other necessary plant for keeping and maintaining their pitches, when not required by the custodian; (3) that the Cricket Council be responsible for material being returned in good order ; (4) that the Park Commille undertake to keep the grass cut and protect the pitches as far as possible, doing everything that is reasonable, and put the ground in order for cricket at once; (5) the custodian lo have the control of the Oval, plant, etc; (6) tho Park Committee reserve the right to the ground for the usual sports meetings, and any days when required by the Committee for entertainments or gatherings ; (6) that the Engineer be asked to allow the cricketers to have the use of the-water ballast roller when not required by him.

Cr Temple and the Chairman were appointed a sub committee to enquire and report to next meeting with regard to a refreshment tent for afternoon lea; also, with regard to sports, etc.
