ANGLICAN SYNOD.

(By Telegraph — Press Association.)

Auckland, Last Night

The Anglican Synod to-day discussed the liquor question. The Rev. P. Smallfield moved :—(1) That the Synod approves the principle of local option in the liquor traffic; and (2) recommends church-people to vote no-license at the approaching poll. Upon the advice of the Bishop, the second part of the motion was withdrawn. After a short discussion, the first part was carried.

The Bible-in-schools question was also considered. The Synod decided to adopt a resolution urging church-people to do their utmost to further the objects of the Bible-in-schools Referendum League.

It was resolved, on the motion of Archdeacon AValsh, to commend to the churchmen of New Zealand the proposal to erect a memorial cross on the spot where the first Christian service was held in the Colony, by the Rev S. Marsden, at Bay of Islands, on Christmas Day, 1814.
