Pirate is also full brother to Viking, Lord Harold and Era (Champion Trotting Stallion of New South Wales), who at Hobartville sale made 275, 670 and 600 guineas respectively. Pirate was only shown once, at the Hawkesbury Show, New South Wales, where he beat his brother, Era, who is now Champion of New South Wales. Pirate has never performed in public, owing to an accident which occurred while in training. Pirate's dam, Violetta (imp.), is by Echo (son of Rysdyk's Hambletonian), from Nita (by Sawyer's Hambletonian), from Betsy Austin (by Montreal, a Canadian pacer). Having been for several seasons standing at the Hobartville stud, and mated with the very best mares in Australia, including Kentucky Maid (dam of Ostlerie), it will be seen that Pirate's credentials are equal to, if not better than, any sire in New Zealand. Pirate has a beautiful temper and is perfectly quiet in saddle and harness. The above stallion will stand at his owner's farm, Taueru, during the forthcoming season. As a limited number of mares only will be taken, early application is necessary. Pirate is a beautiful deep chestnut, standing 16 hands 1 inch high.
