MAURICEVILLE NOTES.

{Special to Daily Times.) I regret to state that Mr Jacob Jacobsen, who has on several occasions suffered from attacks of rheumatic fever, is so seriously ill thai he lias been removed to the Masterton Hospital. The line weather of the past few days has nv.ulo a marked improvement in the state of the roads. Residents growl somewhat at the muddy condition of our main thoroughfare through the township ; but, after all, it compares more than favourably with Queenstreet, Masterton. Socials are the order of the day here. It is said that one is being arranged to lake place in about a fortnight, in aid of the Roman Catholic Church, which is now in course of erection. The proposed stock road from Kketahuna to Shannon, in the opinion of some, might be left in abeyance for some time to come. The Hon. W. Hall-Jones was near the mark when he said " the drawback was the pressing necessities of the settlers, especially dairy farmers, to have their roads and bridges completed."

There are dozens of roads in the Forty Mile Bush that could very well be improved and which would be of much greater benefit generally, than the Edetahuna-Shannon-road. The settlers who have had their land loaded for roads, and who have none, should receive first consideration.
