THE NEW OCCIDENTAL.

A Splendidly Appointed Hotel.

' The hotel accommodation offered in Masterton now compares more than favourably with that in any other inland town in New Zealand. During the past two or three years many thousands of pounds have been expended in pulling down old buildings, and erecting instead modern, up-to-date struotures. One of tho best built and most luxuriantly appointed in Masterton, now, is the Occidental, a three-storied building, under the conduct of Mr J. O'Meara, who is well and favourably known to almost every resident of this district.

The Occidental contains over forty bedrooms, each and every one being well lighted and ventilated, and exceptionally well furnished. Both the second and third floors are set apart for the accommodation of boarders and visitors. On each of these floors private sitting rooms, writing rooms, bathrooms and lavatories are provided, and the lire escape system is complete in every detail. A four-foot verandah runs round three sides of the house from the lop storey, from which a magnificent view of the whole of Masterlon can be obtained.

The whole of the first lloor is reserved for the conduct of the business. Entering from Queen-strcot the two first rooms arc the public and private bars, immediately behind which are the commercial room and bar parlour. Then comes the dining room, measuring 24ft by 30ft. The kitchen is fitted with a very large range, to which is attached high pressure water supply. Hot water is thus provided for the use of both kitchen and scullery.

The accommodation for the servants is all that could be desired. Besides well-fur-nished sleeping apartments, they have their own private dining room, hall and linen press.

The hotel is lighted throughout with gas, and electric fire-alarms are fitted in various portions of the house.

The Occidental is a hotel of which Masterton can certainly be proud, and visitors to the town will find if a really first-class place to stay at. The proprietor has a reputation for keeping an excellent table, and the house oilers superior accommodation, for which every requisite appurtenance has been provided.
