To-Day's Big Match.

(By Telegraph — Press Association). .Wellington, This Day.

The weather is cold and showery

The ground will be very wet for the New Zealand team's match, and the game must be more or less of a mud scramble.

The following is expected to be the team chosen to represent New Zealand in to-day's match:—Gillett, Thompson, Smith, Abbott, Hunter, Mynott, Roberts, Tyler, Mackrell, Cunningham, Johnston, Glasgow, Nicholson, Seeling arid Gallagher (wing forward).

Mr G. C. Fache has been selected as referee.

" Twister and Co." in the New Zealand Tunes, speaking of the Provincial threequarter line, says : " Furrie, O'Leary, and Wrigley are a very solid lot of threequarters. The two first mentioned thoroughly deserve their places, and though Wrigley has the reputation of being an " in and out " player, he will quite justify his inclusion in the team if he gives a display anything like that at Carterton against Wellington three weeks ago. He is a powerful runner, and takes a good deal of stopping once he gets under way."

Referring to the match last night's Post says:—" Given fair weather, the success of to-morrow's big Rugby fixture is practically assured from a financial standpoint, but the success from a football point of view will depend to a great extent on the referee. The appointment of one of the New Zealand selectors to control the game is not looked on very favoir; ably by at least a section of the Provincial team, and there is a feeling that the selection is not a wise one. The Wellington men are going on the field with the idea of playing to win, and not simply for the purpose of giving the New Zealand team a practice run in the paddock, and further, the public, who are being charged special prices for admission, will expect to see a well-fought game, in which neither side is nursed by the referee. If the New Zealand team can win with a good margin, both sides playing ' all out, , the tourists will go away with the confidence of a large section of local footballers behind them, and a revival of interest in the Rugby game may be anticipated."
