The hopes that the Induna had picked tip the Pilbarra were dispelled by the receipt of a private cable from Noumea, stating that the Induna returned from the search
unsuccessful
In reply to inquiries, the agents have received a cable to-night denying that the Induna had arrived at Noumea. The first intelligence, which comes from a private source, was posted at the Shipping Exchange. (Received -To-day, at 9Jo a.m.) Sydney, This Day. Inquiries at the Shipping Exchange, when the Induna message was posted, has elicited the information that the name of the informant could not be divulged; but the news had been received from a very reliable seurce, which it now proves was hoaxedMessrs Burns and Phillip intend to demand an exhaustive enquiry into the matter.
