THE PREMIER UP NORTH.
Another Banquet.
fiy Tdegraph-—Press Association),. Hamilton, Last Night,
Mr Seddon opened the new Town Hall here this afternoon, and addressed a large meeting in the evening. He announced a progressive Native land policy under which lands would be individualised and exchanged so as to provide for landless Natives and settle Maoris on farms like Europeans, making them loans under the terms of the Advances to Settlers' Act. Two million acres of Native lands would then be available for European settlement. Dealing with noxious weeds, he said he was prepared at once to make advances to farmers and Native land owners for clearing weeds, or to clear Native lands and to charge the owners with the cost. Crown lands would also be cleared at once. Mr Seddon also announced that the Thames Valley Estate was about to be purchased by the Government for close settlement, A vote of thanks and confidence was carried by acclamation. The Premier was afterwards entertained at a banquet.
