TuiARU, Last Night.
A foot was found on the Ninety-mile Beach on Friday night, two miles south of the mouth of the Eangitata. It has been identified as belonging to John Mills, one of the party of three who were drowned at sea on Anniversary Day
Invercaugill, Last Night
At the Police Court, to-day, Fanny Hall was fined £10 for having supplied drink to Eliza Hurley, a prohibited person, and the latter was fined £5 on each of two informations for having procured drink, in default two months' imprisonment.
Mr Jacob Alsweiler announces himself a candidate for Wallace in the Liberal, Labour, and Prohibition interest.
Hokitika, Last Night
At the Police Court, to-day, a publican was charged ..with having sold liquor during prohibited hours —on Sunday. The evidence showed that a lodger in the hotel paid for the drinks consumed, and it was argued that this course was permissible under the Act, the latest amendment not affecting the rights of the lodger to entertain his friends. The Bench upheld the contention, and dismissed the charge. The men who had been supplied with the liquor were previously charged, and, being undefended, were fined.
Gisr.ORNE, Yesterday,
News has been received of the disturbance at the East End Lighthouse. The The principal keeper reported to the police and Collector of Customs that one of the men had been smashing up things, and the keeper appealed for assistance. A boat was sent from Port Awanui, and the man who is supposed to have created the disturbance brought back. No explanation is available of the occurrence.
New Plymouth, Yesterday
At a meeting of the shareholders of the Farmers' Co-operative Society, a resolution to go into voluntary liquidation was confirmed.
Last Night.
The Exhibition still attracts large crowds daily. A meeting of the Executive, to-night, decided to keep the show open till to-morrow week. Mr Seddon telegraphed, to-day, that he would be present on Thursday, when he will attend the military sports. He will leave Greymouth at midnight on Tuesday. It is understood that the military display will be the best seen here, as teams have already entered from as far away as Wellington, besides a good local representation. Wellington, Last Night.
The Government have decided to obtain two motor carriages similar to those in use in England, as an experiment on the suburban railway lines for passenger traffic. The accumulated funds of the Eailway Superannuation Fund amounts to £60,000, and the amounts now being paid out total £16,000.
