Terrible Massacre.
Missionaries Murdered.
Victims Terribly Mutilated.

Brisbane, Last Night.
The German mail steamer brings news of a terrible massacre at the Roman mission stations of St Paul and Nacharmah in New Britain on August 13.
A number of slaves liberated by the missionaries were kept at the stations, and these slaves, : assisted by natives from tne mountain?, and headed by Tomari, the favourite boy of Padre Rasher, attacked St. Paul's.
Tomari shot the padre and one of the holy sisters who came to his assistance. A general massacre followed, the victims numbering Rashers. Brothers Blen, Biarschoert and Schellekins, and Sisters' Anna, Sophie, Agatha, Agnes and.Wilhehnina. The majority; . were killed with hatchets and terribly mutilated.
The same day; Nacharmah was attacked, when Brother Henri Eotten was killed.
The stations were completely looted.
Tne natiyes also looted the station at Marienhoer. Luckily the mission brothers were absent.
A Government punitive expedition subsequently captured a large number engaged in the attacks, 26 of whom were shot.
