FOOTBALL.

A Press Association message, from Stratford, is to the effect that the secretary of the Taranaki Bugby Union states that Taranaki is unable to send a team to Wellington to compete for the 11 anfurly shield, as several players arc unable to get away.

The Otago touring team play Wellington on the Athletic Park, to day. Additional interest is lent to the match because the Otago Union has challenged Wellington for the possession of the lianfurly Shield, and there is little doubt that the winner of to-day's match will be the holder of the shield for the present season.

The fixture, Manawatu touring team v. Wanganui representatives, will be played at Wanganui to-day.
