HIBERNIAN REPARTEE.

Once when returning from session of court a famous Canadian judge noticed an old Irish labourer, who was about to take a third-class ticket. He paid his fare, and took him into a saloon with him. The conversation soon turned upon the relative merits of Canada and Ireland. As the train rolled on through the fields of waving corn, past the well-ordered farms and orchards, the judge said: "Well, Mike, you are evidently admiring the country. Far away above Ireland, this, isn't it ?" Tho old man shook his head. li Come, come, now,' - said the judge, " surely this is a finer country in every way. For instance, you would be a long time in Ireland before you would enjoy the honour of riding in a saloon carriage with a judge." •' Yes," replied Mike. '• and you'd bo a long time in Oireland afore they'd make ye a judge." _
