AKITIO COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the above was held on August 6th. Present—Councillors Armstrong (Chairman), Bowie, Birch, Burling and Carolan.

Before starting the ordinary business it was moved by Councillor Armstrong, seconded by Councillor Burling, that the Council express their sympathy with Mrs O'Meara in her bereavement.— Carried.

The Secretary to the Treasury wrote asking for a return of the debt ot the Council.—Sent. The Treasury forwarded .Draft Order in Council re Huia Koad Loan. The Commissioner of Taxes advised that a voucher for £459 los Id had been sent to the Treasury. The Chief Engineer of Roads wrote re .taking, I closing and deviation of roads, and asking the Council to forward any plans to the District Enginner. The Farmers' Union, Rakaunui, wrote re altering Ridings, Huia Road Loan, and amount of thirds on Remu Road.—The Clerk was authorised to supply the information. John Anderson wrote re expenditure of thirds and loan from Pakawai Valley.— It was decided that Mr Anderson be informed of the amount of thirds available, and that J. Fitzgerald go to Pakowai and get worst portion of the road repaired. Councillor Hume was granted leave of absence. Councillor Armstrong reported attending the Ngawapura Bridge Couiinisson and the Counties Conference. It was moved by Councillor Burling and seconded by Councillor Burch and carried that the following roads be proclaimed main roads and paid for out ot general funds: —Alfredton-Weber road, Makuri-Pongaroa road and and road from Pongaroa to Akitio, via Aohanga Valley and Waiotihi roads. It was moved by Councillor Burch, seconded by Councillor Armstrong, that applications be callled tor the position of Road Ovorseer. Applications to close on 3rd September. Councillor Carolan voted against the motion which was carried.

It was decided on the motion of Councillor Bowie, seconded by Councillor Burch, that applications be called for the position of surfaceman on the MakuriPongaroa road, applications to close on 3rd September.—Carried.

The Cleric was instructed to write to the Masterton Count}' re maintenance of portion of Alfredton-VVebe* road held jointly between both Counties.

Accounts amounting to £369 5s were passed for payment.
