AUSTRALIAN POLITICS.
Perth, Yesterday.
There being no law.yer in the Labour Party, Mr Sayer, Crown Solicitor, has been appointed to act as AttorneyGeneral.
Melbourne, Yesterday
In the Federal House of Representatives, Mr M'Coy opposed Mr Watson's motion to re-commit the Arbitration Bill in order to reconsider the clause giving preference to unionists. Mr Watson declared that Mr M , Coy's procedure in resisting committal was most unusual. The Government, he said, regarded Mr M , Coy's amendment as a travesty on preference, and it would be better to strike it out of the Bill altogether. He regarded preference to unionists as the cardinal principle of compulsory arbitration.
The debate at times became very heated, and was finally adjourned. It is probable that the Government will be defeated by at least two votes.
