WELL DESERVED PROMOTION.

After Many Years.

A distinguished officer who entered the service by way of the ranks has just received promotion. Major W. M. Sherston, D.5.0., who since the day his uncle, Lord ftoberts, became Comman-derin-Chief has been one of his aides-de-camp, last month became LieutenantOolonel in command of the Imperial Yeomanry at Bath, in place of Lord Dungarvon. Colonel Sherston enlisted in the 7th Dragoon Guards some twentyfive years ago. He has seen active service in the Soudan, in Burmah, and in both the Boer wars.
