Lord Morley, Chairman of Committees and Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords, speaking at Plimmerston, said that though he differed with Mr Chamberlain's proposals in some respect, he differed with The Government's poJPon was somewhat difficult, he confessed. If the seed sown by Mr Chamberlain ripened, tbey should be prepared to reap the crop. Freetrade was one of the conditions under which prosperity had been created. He maintained that the difficulty was to disentangle and cause effect. It might be that, in some cases, retaliation was advisable, but he would like to know what mandate the Government wanted ?
