Sydney, This Day. Mr Burns Philip has received the fol lowing message from Noumea : —

" The steamer Pacifique has arrived, and reports that the passengers and crsw of the Ovalau are safe at Lord Howe's island, where she arrived on the 19th, with her forehold on fire. An explosion OJeurred, and the Ovalau sank early on the morning of the 20th."
