The Wairarapa Touring Team.
[By Telegraph---Press Association), Invercargill, This Day,
The football match, Wairarapa v. Southland, was won by tho latter by fourteen to three. Sharp showers in the forenoon made tho ground greasy, and in parts muddy. A good exhibition was scarcely expected. While tho ball was among the forwards the visitors held their own, and in footwork were superior to tho local men, but in back play the Northerners were out-classed. The local men started against a fairly strong wind. Wairarapa's score was obtained early iv the game by Rogers. For Southland, Christopher got two tries and Bain one. The visitors were frequently penalised for off-side play.
(By Telegraph—Special toßxihY Times; Invercakgill, This Day. The weather was dull and the ground very heavy. The Wairarapa forwards played a good game, and more than held their own, with the exception of getting the ball in the scrum, where Southland beat them.
Rogers kicked a penalty goal soon after the start, and the first spell ended with both teams three points. In the second spell the Southland backs put in great work and added three more tries, despite good tackling by Wairarapa, one of which was converted. Towards the end the visitors made things merry, but the home defence was too sound.
Tho team left for Dunedin this morning, and will play Otago on Saturday. There was a large attendance at terday's match.
