An Australian who has been watching the continental racing this season is not particularly impressed with the up-to-dateness of tho methods or the amount of prize money offered. He recently saw 27 riders start for a four miles consolation race, for which tho first prize was £&■ A private cablegram received in Christchurch recently states that Don Walker, Australia's champion sprint cyclist, has agreed to race in a match at Lancaster Park on December 16, against G. Sutherland, New Zealand's champion, who recontly issued an open challenge to all Australian riders. Inducements will probably be offered to Walker to tour the colony. The amount of money raced for in Australia during the season 1902-3 amounted approximately to _;6,60Q, as against £5700 for the previous season. Of this amount nearly -.1,000 was given for handicap races.
