.Jokes by the Home Press.
Mr Seddon is still an unfailing source of mirth to the English Radical Press. His impulsive and sometimes indiscreet utterances (says a London correspondent) aro a deep joy to his opponents, if occasionally embarrassing to his friends in England, Tho Westminister Gazette, for instance, publishes the following imaginary telegram, which it "understands has been received at the Colonial Office," but whioh " will not be published except in this the Right Hon. R. J. S*dd ! _. —Quite agree as to men not living by bread alone (it sounds like a quotation, but have only the summarised report). The physique of the race largely depends upon mutton. My Government shops will soon be open in all large centres. (Schools and institutions supplied on special terms). ■ One pound of our frozen Canterbury contains as much nourishment as a yard of German sausage. Very important issuo; should be got and Kept on _ _u_-* _~,,_.--- --plane such as mutton. Tho question really is whether for tbo sake of a penny the pound you give us the cold shoulder, or we supply you with ours, practically at cost price."
