PRESENTATION TO MR T. HARFORD.

Members of the Opaki Rifle Club assembled at the Central Hotel, Masterton, on Saturday evening for the purpose of bidding farewell to one of their most prominent members, Mr T. Harford, and to give him tangible proof of his popularity and the esteem in which he is held, as well as to show their sincere regret at his departure.

Captain W. J. Welch was in the chair. Ho remarked that the function had its regrettable as well as its pleasing side. They all regretted very much that they were losing one of their best members, a member who had always taken an active interest in the welfare of the Club, and who never shirked his fair share of duty or responsibility. . Mr Harford was a real sport, and it was men like him who helped to make any club successful. Mr Harford was a good citizen, and although he was leaving the district they were pleased that he had every prospect of bettering himself. The Captain then asked Mr Harford to accept a silvermounted leather writing case as well as a silver-mounted pocket-book from his follow members of the Opaki Rifle Club, with a sincere hope of every success in the future. (Applause.)

Mr Harford appropriately replied. He expressed his regret at having severed his connection with the Club, but he said he would always have kindly recollections of his associations therewith. He felt proud to have been a member of the Club.

Messrs B. King and G. Hyde added their mead of praise to the estimable qualities possessed by Mr Harford, and hoped that at some future date he would be with them again.

Mr D. McLachlan proposed the health of their departing friend, and the toast was enthusiastically honored. Mr Harford acknowledged the kindly sentiment.

Mr W. Bennett proposed the toast of the Opaki Rifle Club, coupled with the name of Mr J. Henry.

Mr A. Matthews proposed Captain Welch.

Mr D. McLachlan proposed the Champion and ex-Champion—Messrs B. King and G. Hyde respectively.

Captain Welch proposed Messrs Win slade and Head.

Mr D. McLachlan proposed " The Press," coupled with the name of Mr R. W. Carpenter.

Mr Harford was specially honoured with on enthusiastic farewell toast.

During the evening several songs were sung, and the company dispersed after singing " Auld Lang Syne."
