Annual Trials.

The second day of the first annual trials of tho above Club took place, yesterday, in somewhat unfavourible weather The whole of the events were not got through, Class V. being left over till this morning. As in tho previous events, thero were some really fine working animals. Class 111., which was commenced yesterday morning, proved too difficult for most of the competitors, for, out of fourteen, only four completed the task. The three sheep had to be headed, about 2.0 yards, brought back to ring, then driven through two sets of hurdles nino feet wide and about four chains apart, then driven to peg and yard; in all about 450 yards. Time allowed, 15 minutes. Points—Heading, 7 ; bringing back, 7 ; driving and putting through hurdles, 8; yarding, 8; command, 10. Competitor had to keep behind sheep and follow them through hurdles. First prize £5, second £2, third £1, fourth Mr Jas. Elliott's special, fifth Miss Mcllale's special. Special for most points in command, Mr W. Dougali's value 10s 6d. Open only to drovers residing within the boundaries of Wairarapa, Masterton, and Pahiatua electoral districts ; drovers to have been employed on roads for three months prior to date of trials. The result was: A.Meikle's "Ned,"(3,4.5,7,6) 27 points, 1; F. W. Jones' " Wattie," (2,5,3,4,4) 18 points,-SI; A. Wylie's " Glen," (3, 3, 4,4, 2) 16 points, 3; F. W. Jones' " Scamp," (3, 4, 2,4, 2) 15 points, 4.

Twelve dogs competed in Class IV„ heading about 500 yards, bringing back and holding in ring to the satisfaction of the judge, but only five wont right through with the work. Points Heading 7, bringing back 7, holding 6, command 10, total 30. Result: A. Meikle's "Tip" (6, 5, 5, 9) 25points, 1; J. Scott's " Gyp " (5, 4, 4, 5) 18 points, 2; F. W. Jones' "Roy" (4, 4, 3, 4) 15 points, 3; F. W. Jones' "Wattie" (3,4, 4,3) 14 points, 4; F. W. Jones' " Slate" (4, 3, 2, 4), 13 points, 5. Class V. was promptly finished this morning, only five dogs competing. It was open to settlers owning not more than 3000 sheep. Points—Style 8, yarding 6, command 10. First prize £5, second £2, third £1, fourth Messrs Coulter, Harcombe and Co.'s value 10s 6d, fifth Mr H. L. Fuller's value (set of shoes). Special for most points in command, Mr C. Smith's value. Result : A. Wylie's"Glen,"(B, 5, 7), 20 points, 1; F. Percy's " Troy," (5, 4, 6) 15 points, 2; A. Armstrong's " Laddie," (4, 3, 5), 12 points, 3.

In the special prizes, the following are the awards:—Best all-round dog on ground, Mastorton A. and P. Association's £2 2s (cash), A. Meikle's ' Watty.' Best drover's dog in opinion of Judge, Mr R. J. Hodgins' one and a-half guineas (cash),A. Meikle's 'Watty.' Best dog in command in Classes 3 and 4, Miss Moore's value 10s 6d, A. Meikle's' Watty.' Dog scoring most points throughout trials, Miss Jones' value, A. Wyllie's 'Glen ' 111. (16) and V. (20), 36 points. Dog scoring most points in Classes 3 and 4, Mr P. Hamill's value £1 10s, F. W. Jones' 'Watty,' 111. (18) andlV. (14), 32 points.
