Eketahuna Stock Quotations

Messrs Lowes and lorns, Ltd., report as follows regarding their Eketahuna stock sale, held yesterday :—Tho yarding of stock was the largest, we have had for years. Ewes comprised nearly the whole of the yarding, wethers and lambs coming forward only in small numbers. Cattle were very representative, the bulk being weaners and 18----months. There was a marked improvement in the bidding for sheep, and considerable business was done at auction, and those passed in soon found buyers, with the exception of two small lots. Young cattle were again in particularly keen request, buyers taking them freely under the hammer, although in a few cases where reserves were prohibitive, they had to be passed in temporarily. Buyers of fullgrown cattle were not in attendance, and consequently competition for this class was restricted. We quote :—Breeding ewes, from 7s Id to 9s od ; culls, 8s to 5s 6d; 2-tooth ewes, good, 10s; 2-tooth wethers, from 8s 7d to 10s for a special lot; lambs, 4s 3d to 5s 3d ; fat ewes, 10s 6d; forward ewes, up to 9s 6d. About 50 rams also sold at prices ranging from jgs to]4gs; Leicesters making 2\- to 2r}gs ; Ronmeys, lf_ to 4gs, and Lincolns, lgs. Cattle—Weaners, from 24s to 39s ; inferior sorts, los to 22s 6d; poor, lis ; 18-month steers, to £3 7s ; yearlings and 18-month heifers, £2 13s Gd; 2-year steers, £4 lis; 24-year, £5 6s 6d; fat cows, £5 12s 6d to* £6 ; 2-year heifers in calf, £4 ss. Pigs met a fair demand, at prices ranging from lis to 18s for weaners.
