Dr J. H. Choate, American Ambassador to Great Britain, was entertained by the Pilgrims' Club. Iα the course of his speech he attributed the improved relations between Britain and America to the popular will of each country, also t^ Lords Salisbury's and Lansdowne's candour, fairness and friendliness. In every question they had maintained cordial, waivj, and hearty relations, nor could ho ignore King Edward's influence in heartily cementing the Union.
