Proposed Plumbing' Class
Deputation to the Borough
Council
Messrs A. C. Ilayton, U. E. Jones and S. Kingdon formed a deputation that waited upon tho Mastertou Borough Council, last evening, to urge on the Council the importance, almost amounting to a necessity, of giving financial assistance to tho movement to establish a plumbers class in connection with the 1oc:l1 Technical School. Mr J. M. Curadiuo was also present, as representin;; the Technical School Managers.
A letter was read from Dr Valintine, Assistant Health Ol'licor, suggesting to the Council the importance of assisting tho movement all in its power.
Messrs Jones and Iluyton fully explained the project, and emphasised tlio necessity ami importance of forming a plumbers' class. Reference was also made to the financial help that was necessary in order to carry on the class efficiently owing to the expensive nature thereof. Mr Corudinc supplemented the remarks of tho members uf tho deputation by stating that the Technical School Managers recognised the importance of the movement. A grant of from X'2i) to X'fO wan anticipated from the Council, another X'2s from the Trust, which, with the Government subsidy anil subscriptions, would bring the total over X'lOO. The approximate cost of the class would bo about .£l5O a year. The Mayor spoke favourably regarding the formation of a plumbers' class, and suggested that tho question should be relegated to a committee to report upon.
Cr Ewingtoii moved that Cra Jackson, lienall, Jlessey and the mover be the Committee to enquire into and report on the matter. Cr Jackson seconded the motion,
Cr Caselborg moved an amendment that X"25 be granted to the Managers of the Technical School with which to establish a plumbers' class.
Cr Eton seconded the amendment
Crs Koiull, Elliott, Morris, Chamberlain and llessey, although in favour of assisting the movement, opposed the amendment, which was negatived, and the motion was agreed to.
