The chief topic of conversation in Bidcford at present is the plain and fancy dress ball, which is to take place on Thursday night, 18th September. Several run-holders in our district have lately sold out, and I hear several more aro negotiating tho sales of their properties. Any person who is in search of a placo wherein to find peace and good health, could not do better than scttlo in our charming Upper Taueru Valley. Most of our famiors around hero, who go ill for agriculture, intend to sow a quantity of rape. No doubt tho market will bo over stocked with fat Jambs next season. Flocks of quail are to be seen throughout the valley, especially when out of j season, or if you have no gun. A. fairly heavy shock of carthquako' •,yas felt hereon Tuesday, about 4,15 a.m.
