Henning's motor-car passed through here on Friday afternoon shortly after three o'clock, and was the centre of at- \ traction whilst on the move. Mr H. Cook, picture-frarner, of Grey- \ town, has received word that his sou, W. Cook, who left with the Tenth Contingent, is in quarantine at MotuitnVj Auckland, having contracted an epideu|(|' while attending on tho sick coming across on the Montrose. '. Tho Wairarapa Pastoral and Agricultural Society held its general meeting in tho Greytown Working Men's Club room 1 on Friday afternoon, when some twenty [ members were present. Mr W. E. Bidwill was in the chair. Correspondence was read from the P. and A. Society re the appointment of Ram Fair delegates, and it was resolved that Messrs G. Tully and R. Kemble represent the Society. From Mr P. A. Erick- ] sen, re the fencing in of land in Belvedere-road. Resolved that the Ground Committee report on the matter. A number of resignations were received, but it was pointed out that members resigning were liable for the present year's subscriptions, and. it was resolved that the same cannot bo received until subscriptions are paid. Several accounts were passed for payment, and ten new members were elected. Messrs H. Morrison, H. McPhee and R. Kemble. were appointed a Committee re horse parade. It was resolved that the Secretary and Mr Persfcon visit tho Hawke's Bay Show. Farrier-Major T. Merson, Lance-Cor-poral W. A. Jackson and Sergeant H. 0. Tully have arrived home. They look none the worse for their sojourn in South Africa. It is about time the Featherston Road Board did something to that portion of the road between Martinborough and Greytown, opposite Mr T. lugley's perty, as it is at presont in a very bad state—in fact, in a littlo while, will be dangerous to traffic. The annual mooting of tho Wairarapa Racing Club is to be held on the 28th of August. The Stewards recommend that £2000 be placed at their disposal, with an extra £1000 for a steeplechase meeting, if permit is available. Mrs Sherwood, of Pironoa, who has been in tho South Wairarapa Hospital for the last eight months, the result of falling in the fire and her hand seriously burnt, and finally having to have the hand amputated at the wrist, has now left tho institution convalescent. The Borough Council are having tho main street metalled—a piece of work which was much needed. Property is still changing hands. W. R. Thomsom sold an acre at the south end of tho township for £80.
