Accused Before the Court.
Mahoney was brought before Mr W. P. James, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court, this morning, aud chargsd with attempting to murder Edwin Gunther. The Court house was crowded. Sergeant O'Malley applied for a remand till Thursday, his object being not to have to send prisoner to Wellington, and three days was the longest they could keep him at Masterton. Mr C. A. Pownall, who appeared for accused, thought that Gunther's condv tion would be ascertained in about three days. However, if on Thursday another remand was necessary he could offer no objection, because if there was a possibility of getting Gunther's evidence they must have it. Mr James granted the remand.
Detective McGrath is expected tfe. arrive in Masterton, to-day, to assist in the police investigations.
