Wellington v. South Wairarapa.
A Poor Exhibition of Football,
(By Telegraph — Press Association). Wellington, This Day. Tho representative match, Wellington v. South Wairarapa, was played on the Athletic Park, on Saturday. The weather was cold, and a strong northerly wind swept over tho ground, which made the passing difficult, and kicking merely a matter of luck. During the first spell, Wallace scored a try for Wellington, this was converted by Spencer. No further score was made during the game, the visitors being thus defeated by five points to nil. The Wellington team played a poor game, and were successfully emulated by their opponents. Badly packed scrummages and inaflective back play were the most noticeable features of tho match. Prodigious efforts wore made by the burly vanguard from the country to run ovor the city players, and they succeeded in doing this in most cases, but showed utter lack of reason in subsequent methods of attack, and their back division went all to pieces when combination was necessary. Tho Wellington backs were also a good deal below par, and the forwards were certainly not up to the form of previous years.
Southland beat Otago on Saturday by Cpts to 3; Auckland defeated Taraiinki by 21pts to 3, and Canterbury defeated South Canterbury by 29pts to 5.
