FOOTBALL.
(by "blue and gold.") Taranaki defeated Wanganui afc Hawera yesterday by 24 points to nil. At a meeting of the Wellington Rugby Union, last evening, it was decided to inform the Wairarapa Thursday Football Union that, as Wednesday football was not played in Wellington this season, a Wednesday representative team could not bo sent to Wairarapa. It was further decided to agree to Mr Norris as refereo in the Wellington ■ Wairarapa match next Saturday. Horowhenua and Manawatu played a drawn game —no score—at Palmerston North, yesterday. The Gladstone-Masterton 11. Junior match will be played at Gladstone on Saturday. The Masterton 11. team will be picked this evening. A Press Association message from Woodville states :—" In a football match played here yesterday afternoon, botween Woodville -and a team of Maoris from Dannevirke, the latter played one of the roughest games ever seen on a football ground. After several of the local players were badly injured and had to retire from thofiold, the police interfered and ordered the roughest players off". Tho action of the referee, who is a half-caste, in not taking steps to stop the rough play, was severely commented on. The matter is to be reported to the Union." .
