ADDRESS TO WE GOVERNOR FROM THE WESLEYAN CONFERENCE.
At mid-day on Monday ft deputation from the Wesleyun Conference, consisting of tbo lievs, W. Bnmnberj (ex-president), 11. B. Redstone, A. C. Lnwry and T. F. Jones, Messrs 0. W. Benbow, W, Jloxlinm, G. Tiller nnd 11. Brittnin waited on His Excellency Lord ltaiifnrly and presented him with the following beautifully-illuminated address from the president:— "To His Excellency llio Bight Honourable the Jinrl of Jianfurly, Governor of New Zealand.—May it please your Excellency,—On belud'f of the New Zealand Conference of the "NVesleyan Methodist Church of Australasia I beir to tender to your Excellency hearty congratulations on your safe arrival in this distant part of the Empire. We hold your high ollicc in loyal .reverence, and wo pray that the Great llulcr of All Things may grant you a happy nnd prosperous administration, and keep the inlluencc of your high name and ollicc ever on the side ot the righteousness that exalts nations. Vi'e wish also to express to you as the representative of Her Majesty our proud and hearty loyalty to the British Throne and to the person of our Most Gracious Queen. \Yc, in common with all classes of the community, have felt the electric thrill that has passed through Jfcr Majesty's wide dominions in connection with the celebration of the sixtieth year of her glorious reign. We pray that our Gracious Sovereign may still he long spareil to rule, and that the course of events may be so guided that the Empire may be drawn into yet closer union, and enjoy ever-growing power and prosperity.—l have the honour to lie, your Excellency's humble servant, I'. His Excellency replied as follows: —"I tlmnk yon very much for your kind cougratutions on unsafe arrival in this country. 1 note with satisfaction vonr ])rotestations of loyal reverence towards the high ollice 1 am called upon to till, and I pray that the Almighty may so guide me that the years of my Governorship may prove years of increasing prosperity and advancement to this colony, t sliall have the honor of conveying to Her Majesty your expression of loyalty and devotion to her person and to the throne which she has so nobly filled for sixty years. The enthusiam with which hoi Jubilee was celebrated all over her vast dominions was only another proof (if such were needed) that a reign of justice and devotion to duty must also be a reign of honour, and bring prosperity and happiness to the nation over which she rules. Your prayer that our Most Gracious Sovereign may long be spaicd to reign over ns is one which has been reiterated by millions of voices this year, and 1 join with you in the earnest hope that this great Umpire over which the sun never sets, which our forefathers have built up, whose glory is unequalled in the history of the world, may, as years roll by, bo more closely and firmly united in those bonds of brotherly love and Christianity from which alone can come any prosperity or happiness."
