From further particulars lo hand of the liooncy shool ing case, reported by its yesterday, it appears Hint the young woman, whose age is about twenty-four years, had been leading a vagrant sort of life about the streets of Feilding for some weeks past, and the police bad communicated with her paienls, asking them to take their daughter home itnd look after her, ns she was likely to get into trouble through the way she was wandering about llie streets at,nil hours of I lie night, Jler father mid mother live at a place called Stormy Point, in the W'elford Village Settlement, in llie Waituna district, distant some twenty-two miles from Feilding. The accused and a young man named T. Gillies had been on friendly terms for several weeks pusl, until something occurred which broke oil' their intimacy. The girl then swore an information against Gillies,charging liitn with hating committed a criminal assault on her, and he was arrested and remanded, bail being allowed in one surety of £lO. The adjourned hearing of the cliaige was to have taken place to-day (Tuesday). Gillies absolutely denies the imputation, but says that he told the girl not lo come near him any more or lie would give her in charge. 'This was on Saturday, 7th instant, the day oil which she alleges ho committed the criminal assault upon her,
Not very much is known of the tjirl's previous conduct or manner of life, but for .some time past slio appears to have been out in the si routs of t'cilding nearly nil the night, while during the day-time she was 4<uci to be seen. The father bears the Kjiulntioii of tin industrious man but is said to be very excitable, especially when under the influence ■of liquor, which does not often happen. A young man named Noble, a barber, it is said, had been threatened by the girl. The young man Gillies alleges tlmt lie had no quarrel < with the girl, but simply told her not to come near him any more, and the information for alleged criminal assault was then laid by her, mid n ainmbet' of subpeenas were issued, at kr request, against various individuals. Gillies says she Iwd thrown cayenne pepper in bis face on more than oue occasion, and had also frequently threatened him,
THE CUAItGU AGAINST GILLIES DISMISSED. (By Telegraph,—l'rtss Asmiulmi.) l''oiLUi.\'i.;, Wednesday. Dr Charlton who was shot in the Load by the woman Looney is not so well to-day, having passed a bad night. ' Annie Looney was charged with attempting to kill and her father for kit aiding and abetting and remanded Jr until Tuesday, Bail was refused. The charge of rapo preferred by Annie Looney against Gillies, at whom niie tired, was dismissed without hearing the defence.
