To the Jubilee numbor of tho Court Journal the Countess of Munstcr, whose mother was State housekeeper at Kensington Palace, contribntos some interesting reminiscences, She tells of au apparition which was seen oh one occasion by the sentry on' duly in the inner court of the Palace. The figure was strangely dressed, and glided noiselessly past, heedless of the sentry's challenge. A soldier who heard the story asked to bo placed on duty there, vowing 'that "no man or devil" should pass him without giving the watchword. When (ho clock struck and the figure appeared The sentry challenged the intruder, hut he gave no answer. The soldier then said, "If you don't give me the passWord I shall tiro!" The figure now made as though it would pass the indiguant sentry, and it did, for the soldier prodded at it with his bayonet, but it glided calmly on as the bayonet passed through it into the wall, making a deep mark and shivering it to splinters I Tho Countess adds that her mother saw the mark in the wall. The rumour was that the apparition was that of George 11.
