A deputation from ft meotinj; held it Capetown to advocate the abolition of the duty on imported meat waited upon Sir James Sievwrigbt, Commissioner of Railways and Public Works, and in reply to the! representations Sir James assured s the deputation that the majority of the population of the colony did not desire the abolition 0f meat duties,, and lie added that if the prices of' tlio meat were excessive he would, invite the Orange Free State to con-: sent to a temporary suspension of: the duty. •
