A number of artillery ollicers and men went out in two boats in a small bay two miles from tho town for the purpose of destroying several, bombs loaded with melinite. Curing tho operations of fixing the 1 electric current a boinb exploded and blew up tho boat containing nine men. Three artillery artificers and. a Kanaka wero literally blown to atoms. Tho remaining iiyo woro badly injured. A Kanaka ill the second boat was also injured. Tho othor boat rescued tho wounded.
