WAIRERE NOTES.

IFrom Our Own Correspondent.) For the benefit of any embryo Macaulay, or future historian, we herewith put on record that the first political meeting ever heard occurred on Thursday I'aßt, when Mr A. W. Hogg gave an address, which was well-attended, about forty being present. The meeting, amongst whom ladies were not unknown, was attentive, and seemingly swallowed with muoh satisfaction the political morsels which were dished up for them in the usual manner.

A social followed, and many good songs and recitations were rendered and loudly applauded. Mr Hogg being, as usual, to tho fore with song and jest, as he had just previously been in eloquence and fervid zeal, in the great cause of Liberalism. The meeting broke up at one a.m., or past midnight, the silence of the surrounding forest being broken by the loud hurrah and cheers of the departing voters, in their enthusiasm for the hero of the hour. A frost occurred last night which cutoff everything except our faith that right will triumph over wrong in the end! The time chosen for Mr Cameron's meeting (mid-day) will militate greatly against his having a good meeting. Men cannot be expected to leave off work and travel inconvenient distances during the working hours—bushfalling is the least remunerative of all occupations, and if shearing, as many are now doing, they are unable to leave the shed. It would be better , for Mr Cameron to sing a comic song at the.various camps and sheds and pass on.
