MR HOGG'S MEETING AT BIDEFORD.

[to the editob.] Sib,—As your correspondent re Mr Hogg's meeting at Bideford, has reported statements that aro not correct, will you oblige by inserting my letter in reply to the same. What really happened is this: Mr Perston, a settler here, was in the act of asking Mr Hogg whether he believed or not that settlers had discharged men on account of their political opinions and referred them to the Government which they had put in, to get work. I then stated this had been done, and in reply to Mr Perston said that Mr CockburnHood was one who had done so, and that I myself was the man who had suffered, Then Mr Cockburn-Hood asked me for my authority lor such a statement-aud on my referring to Mr McLeod the latter denied being so ; but at the same time, if necessary, I am able to substantiate my statement through other medinms. Mr Cockbura-Hood's unusual conduct at tho meeting was strongly commented upon, and a personal friendof his had to call his attention to the fact that it was 'neither his nor Mr Torrey's meeting but Mr Hogg's.—l am etc, James Tobbet, [The above entirely corroborates our report of tlio ooourrence.—Ed. W.D.T.]
