Mr A. W. Hogg speaks at Mauriceville West to night at eighto'cloek. Mr D. J. Cameron holds a meeting at Hastwells, at eight o' clock to nittht. Tenders are called for tho Masterton Town Hall. Mr. F. H, Wood adds to the entries for his next Taratahi stock sale. Eight thousand dock lnbourers are on strike in Hamburg and the trouble is extending. Mr D. J, Cameron will address the ladies of Masterton at 4 p.m. on Monday next.

A fine specimen of a liyo brown lizard has been presented to the Masterton Museum by Mr August Johnston, of Myrtle Holmo,' To test tho correctness of a thermometer plunge it into a pail of partlymelted broken ice, and note ifit correctly registers the melting point of ice as marked on it. Mr C. E. Daniell left Masterton this morning on a business visit to Christchurch. He will lose no time, as he intends rotuming to Masterton next Thursday night.
The Hev, Mr Drake who speaks in Masterton to-morrow, is a young unmarried man who has only been a few years in the Colony, but has proved himself one of the doughtiest champions of tho great temperance movemeat. Private advices received in Sydney last week state that" the drought has recommenced in a most serious form, and menaces us as much as that of last year.especially with regard to the prospects of our coffee crop." To-morrow is Temperance Sunday at all tho Wesleyan Churches. At the Masterton Church the llev. . Mr Drake, of-Wellington, will he the preacher morning and evening, and atfiangitumau at 2.30 p.m. Mr Drake 'visits Masterton by special invitation to address the meeting in the Drill Hall after the churches on Sunday evening. Services will also bo held at Weraiti at 2.30 p.m. and at Taueru at 1 p.m. As the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church has given special instructions to Ministers regarding the Local Option Poll on election day the Eev. Eooert Wood will proach in Masterton to-morrow in the morning on " God's voice in Science, History, and the Bible on the Liquor Traffic." In the evening ho will preach an election sermon on "Conscience in- Politics; or 'Christ or Barabbas."

Her husband had none to pawn either. She hadn't pawned the perambulator | she had sold it for two shillings—the wheels, at least; the other part was no good. Also, she denied haying pawned the tomahawk or taken four pounds of rico back to the grocers' to exchange it for money.
