THE CHANCELLOR'S EXPLANATION,
London, June 8. Tho Chancellor of the Exchequer, I replying to the Colonial Institatfj says that the British tax is leiMn income regardless of the natoe, locality, and property. He considered it equitable to doubly tax persons possessing property in one country and spending the income in another It wonld be impossible to. coifine' a; .reciprocal exemption to' colonists resident in Britain, but must extend it to all drawing income from the • .colonies.
