Native Disturbance at Paeroa
(By Telegraph.— Press Association), Thames, Thursday, A. serious disturbance has taken place at Paeroa, between the Ngatiko and Ngatitawhake tribes. Tho former were removing gravel from.a quarry in Makamako. i During the borero the well-known ohief, Te Moninui, of the Ngatitawhakfi tribe, got hiß hands badly, injured, necessitating the amputation of one or the fingers. This so enraged Monanui's followers that eleven na* tires, armed with double barrelled fowling pieces, and plenty of ammuni ion, took up a position in the quarry, and emphatically declared they would shoot any of the opposing tribe who removed gravel. After a lengthy parley (he police induced both parties to sign a truce pending the ownership of the quarry. The Ngatitawhnke then discharged their guns, and after (lancint; a war dance, returned 10 the pah/. Things are quiet to-day but further troubla feurpd.
