FEATHERSTON NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent), Feathers™, Tuesday.On Sunday a lad named Harold Wilkinson narrowly escaped losing an oye. Ho was playing with a small pistol which accidentally exploded. Tho bullet struck him on the bridge of tho nose and passed out just over his eye. A rather exciting scene took place at the railway station last night, Just as the afternoon train for Wellington was goine, a man with a portmanteau was seen running up tlio path to the station. At some distance behind lib were two more with a drunken companion between iheni. The first man succeeded in getting aboard fafely and one of tho others was about to follow his example when the stationmast'T warned bim not to attomptit as the train was well under way. A strucgle then ensued, the stationmasler ondeavouringlo prevent, and the man on the train trying to assist tho unfortunato to get on. In the meantime the engine got up steam and tho men had to give up the attempt,
