WELLINGTON ELECTION.

TtoMuraofHrM'Loan.

The oleotors of Wellington have decided to make MrM'Lean their representative; We (the Times), cannot compliment tho majority (a narrow one) on tho result, To the Government that result makes very' little! difference, for they had a follower in Mr Macdonald, and now they have a follower in Hfr McLean, who has replaced Mr Macdonald, Tho opportunity for imptoving the personnel of the House has not been taken j this is how the election affects tho House of Representatives, The credit of the colony may be affected; we have yet to see whether it will or not, Had the Government left the election alone, as they night very well have done, tho cedit of the colony would not have suffered in any way. But they have ohoson to giye the election a fictitious value, whiob has drawn very general attention to it in Australia and Great Britain, What effect this may have upon thasensitiveness of capital we fear to analyse. We prefer to let the future speak in this matter for itself, In the meantime wo may say that one fact is patent. Wellington, by the election of Mr McLean, under the circumstances, has gone into line with the Town Party, as it has beop organised in the three other great centres, Mr UiUbieisnow the one member of any of the four carjtres who is against the Government, .the others being all with them, In. Mr Macdonald's time, ofcourpp, the same thing could besaid. But the other side hoped to gain the advantage by putting up the better man after Mr Macdonald re, tired.
