The picnic hold lit Mrs O'Connor's bash at Greytown yesterday by the Greytown Temperance Society was & thorough suocess. The weather was fine and a large number of people from all part attended, A phenomenal hail storm occurred at Hawera on Saturday, the atones being lull an inch through. In the couise ot the afternoon Pearson's Private Band, ot Masterton, appeared on the festive scene, and made things very merry by playing several selections which were highly appreciated by those present. .Refreshments of all descriptions were provided by tho pood ladies of the Taueru, who did everything in their favour to make the holiday a pleasant one.

A meeting of delegates from the various district Rugby Union* in this colony was held at Wellington on Saturday, to consider th« advisability of forming a New Zealand Rugby Football Union. Mr A. E. D'Aroy represented the Wai« rarapa. A constitution was drafted, and the following resolution passed:—That this meeting, haying considered the question of the formation of a New Zealand Union, are of opinion that the time has arrived for the matter to reeeive the definite attention of the various Unions, and that the attached constitution be submitted for consideratien at their earliest convenience.
